Ford Shows Off Mustang Mach-E NASCAR Demonstrator

NASCAR racing isn’t about to go full EV, at least not yet, but those that run the series, and the manufacturers who participate are clearly thinking about the future.

With that in mind, Ford recently revealed its Mustang Mach-E NASCAR prototype, a demonstrator designed to show what electric racing might look like. And despite its rather unconventional looks, this racer isn’t too far removed from current NASCAR standards. For instance, the Mach-E demonstrator has suspension components, brakes, steering, and wheels currently in use in the NASCAR Cup Series.

Ford didn’t reveal any power numbers, but said the Mach-E demonstrator has three electric motors, along with a 78-kWh battery. It also features a full carbon fiber tub.

For context, current NASCAR Cup Series cars are powered by a 5.86-liter naturally aspirated V8 engine that produces 670 horsepower and 530 lb-ft. of torque on tracks two miles long or smaller. On tracks bigger than two miles, such as Daytona and Talladega, NASCAR rules restrict output to 510 horsepower. The reduction is for safety reasons, according to NASCAR.

Funcity Drift Becomes Official Formula Drift Affiliate in Taiwan

Formula DRIFT continues to expand its international presence with the announcement of its newest affiliate, Funcity Drift, based in Taiwan. This partnership marks a significant step forward in growing the competitive drifting scene in the region, providing Taiwanese drivers with a potential pathway to earn a Formula DRIFT competition license and compete at the highest level.

Funcity Drift has already established itself as a major force in Taiwan’s drift community, organizing the TDGP series—the largest drift championship in the country's history. With more than 40 drivers competing across multiple rounds, the series has seen remarkable growth in driver skill, vehicle performance, and public interest. In 2024, TDGP events attracted up to 2,000 spectators per round, while street races drew crowds exceeding 10,000, highlighting the increasing popularity of the sport.

Under the new agreement, Funcity Drift will align aspects of its operations with the Formula DRIFT rulebook and work to further develop the sport at a grassroots and professional level. The goal is to create a structured path for Taiwanese competitors, similar to the successful Formula DRIFT Japan series, and ultimately integrate them into the international drift scene.

For the 2025 season, Funcity Drift plans to expand its TDGP championship with a five-round series, including an Invitational event. The organization will also focus on refining its Group A and B divisions for more advanced drivers while introducing a new entry-level Group N category to encourage fresh talent.

With this new affiliation, Taiwanese drifting is poised for unprecedented growth. By working alongside Formula DRIFT, Funcity Drift is set to elevate the sport’s visibility and competitiveness, opening doors for local talent to make their mark on the global stage.

TAS 2025: JDM Dreams and Wild Builds

The Tokyo Auto Salon (TAS) is the kind of event that every JDM enthusiast dreams of attending—myself included. From the “basic” yet iconic R34 GT-Rs to G-Wagon-inspired Suzuki Jimnys (yes, they’re the coolest little off-roaders ever) and Liberty Walk’s jaw-dropping widebody creations of the Lamborghini Miura and Ferrari F40, TAS 2025 had something for everyone. While every build deserves its moment in the spotlight, here are a few standout highlights that caught my eye.

Suzuki Jimny G-Wagon and Bronco Conversion

At TAS 2025, the Suzuki Jimny proved once again that small can be mighty—and surprisingly stylish. This year, tuner Cal’s Motors unveiled G-Wagon-inspired and even "OJ" Bronco conversions that had me doing a double-take. The Jimny’s compact footprint—perfect for navigating Japan’s busy streets—was paired with the bold, boxy designs of some iconic off-road legends. The front-end and tailgate swaps, though simple, looked convincingly OEM, thanks to their clean, angular lines. Despite the modifications, the Jimny retained its small size and impressively capable 4x4 platform, making it a standout for both its practicality and its fresh, customized look. This is JDM styling meets clever engineering at its finest.

Liberty Walk’s Audacious Icons

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ve likely seen the viral photos of Liberty Walk’s booth. They absolutely owned the spotlight with their wildly bold takes on two icons of automotive history: the Lamborghini Miura and Ferrari F40. The Miura’s widebody treatment respected its classic, beloved lines, while injecting an extreme, “don’t care” modern aggression. As for the F40? Liberty Walk turned up the heat with their signature flares and a livery created live on the show floor by kids with markers. Yes, you read that right. Despite the playful touch, both cars showcased Liberty Walk’s trademark immaculate bodywork, yet never lost the essence of their legendary identities. These builds were a statement—proving that even the most iconic poster cars aren’t off-limits for reinvention, sparking endless debates in comment sections on tradition vs. customization. In addition, LB announced their official collaboration with A Bathing Ape (BAPE), a popular Japanese clothing brand, to produce custom-liveries, a full clothing line, bearbricks as well as general accessories. Libertywalk never fails to produce the unexpected.

326Power’s Slammed Toyota Land Cruiser

And then, there was the unexpected: 326Power’s lowered Toyota Land Cruiser. Known for their over-the-top off-road styling, the Land Cruiser was transformed into something you wouldn’t expect from the brand. With a full 326 suspension setup, custom aero, and fitment so bold it left you questioning your own preferences, this SUV pushed the boundaries of what we think is possible for an off-roader. It’s the kind of build that makes you think, “I shouldn’t like this… but I really do.” The attention to detail in the fitment was pure 326Power magic—challenging the line between utility and artistry. It was impossible not to stop and stare, and a true testament to the brand’s ability to redefine what’s possible in the tuning world

Formula DRIFT 2025 Season: Bigger, Better, and Full of Smoke

As the 2024 Formula DRIFT season comes to a close, anticipation is already building for 2025, with new faces, exciting venue changes, and an action-packed schedule.

The 2024 season saw a wave of new drivers stepping into the PRO Championship, including the top three finishers from the 2024 FD Link ECU PROSPEC Championship. These drivers—Tommy Lemaire (Canada), Connor O'Sullivan (USA), and Austin Matta (USA)—will make their PRO debut at Long Beach on April 4-5. They’ll be joined by rookies Luke Fink (Australia) and Jack Shanahan (Ireland), the latter known for his success in the British and Irish Drift Championships. We expect them to make an immediate impact in the series.

2025 Championship Schedule

The 2025 Formula DRIFT season kicks off with the iconic Streets of Long Beach, followed by exciting rounds at some of the most challenging and beloved tracks in the US. Notable highlights include the Formula DRIFT x GRIDLIFE Festival at Road Atlanta (May 8-10), which combines FD PRO Round 2, PROSPEC Round 1, and a full GRIDLIFE track schedule for a motorsports triple-header.

Formula DRIFT and GRIDLIFE Combine Forces in 2025

Big news for the automotive world came out of PRI today. In a significant development for fellow motorsports enthusiasts, Formula DRIFT and GRIDLIFE have announced a collaborative event! The collaboration will be for FD's second round event at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta, set for May 8-10, 2025. This partnership aims to deliver a diverse and engaging experience for fans in the Southeast.

The weekend will feature both the PRO and PROSPEC Championships from Formula DRIFT, including practice sessions, tandem seeding bracket qualifications, Top 32 competition heats, and driver autograph opportunities. Complementing this, GRIDLIFE will introduce its Time Attack, GLTC Touring Cup, and Rush SR series to the event. A standout attraction will be the GRIDLIFE Full Course Drift, allowing drivers to drift the entire 2.54-mile, 12-turn track. With top drivers already present, this segment is poised to be a highlight of the weekend.

Road Atlanta holds a special place in Formula DRIFT's history, being the only track consistently featured throughout its 22-year tenure. Known for its fast course set within a natural amphitheater, it remains a favorite among fans and drivers alike.
